AFNI placed a collection on my report - how do I handle this?

Hi,

I just found that AFNI placed a collection on experian and TU. Scores dropped. The collection amount is for 90.00 and from what I think, it  is from 4 years ago. It list verizon so I'm sure it's mine. From the post that I have read most say deal with collections agencies. What is the best way to handle and get this removed. I never received a letter or any kind of collection from this group.  This is what is list:

account name:               AFNI

Account number            xxxxxxxx

Account type                open

Date open                     9/16/2009 (what does this mean?)

balance                         90.00

terms                            1 month

past due                        seriously past due / assigned to attorney, collection agency or credit grantor's internal collection department

Any help would be greatly appreicated as this caused a 40 pt drop. Yeah, I'm not to happy this.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, I emailed AFNI.  I got an apology along with a reply that they would delete the account.  This was after an offer to PFD that went unanswered.  I never paid them a cent.

I If you are sure it is yours, call them and do a PFD.

I did, it was off of my report within 4 days.

Think they said it could take up to 10 business days however.

Re: AFNI placed a collection on my report - how do I handle this?

I recently found a collection account from AFNI (OC: Charter Communications) from 2005, before our bankruptcy on my TU credit report. I'm sure the debt was probably mine as we were customers in that time frame. However, I didn't specifically remember the debt, so I DV'ed TU. About two weeks later, I got a letter back from TU that it was deleted. Between that and a new secured CC account being reported, I had a 64 point jump! It's definitely worth a try! Ask them to send debt verification in writing. Good luck!
