Do I have to" Let them know that you are disputing the validity of this debt..."
What if I already have acknowledged it, inadverently? and wouldnt that make the process of paying it longer because they would have to send me documents via email about the debt? Or if I never acknowledged but acknowledge for the first time in the PFD?
I have a debt of $126 from rentdebt (date opened mar 2020, balance updated may 12 2025)
A debt of $345 from credit collections (date opened october 2021, balance updatec 20th,2025)
and a debt from USAA of $645. (this is on an inactive banking account and not listed on credit reports)
I am trying to apply for a mortgage and I waited long enough to get this settled. I want to get this paid asap. If I write the PFD but take the fact that dispute the debt, will that hurt my PFD chances?
What are you quoting in your first line?
If you dispute the actual charges, because they are truly invalid, why would you also pay someone the money? In the PFD you are acknowledging it as a legit charge. A lot of folks think they can just dispute something to get it off their report, and that's not correct. If it's a bogus charge, dispute and fight it. If you do owe the money, pay it and it will get taken care of as well, though not always removed from the report.
It is mine. Can I use a PFD while acknowledging the debt is mine or disputing the actual debt is part of the PFD process in getting the debt off your report?
If your are doing PFD, you are acknowledging you owe it, you pay it and they delete it. There's nothing to dispute. Outside of bogus charges, pay the outstanding debts and move on. The cherry is if the debt collector or original creditor removes it from your report.
PFDs are "wins". Were you able to pay?
