Am I doing this right?

So long story short. My wife and I moved back to Alabama. We have a mobile home in her name, she is a stay at home mom for now with a credit score of 805. I pay her car payment. I work making 65k a year trying to get my debt paid off. My one goal is for us to be able to get a home...that's all I want to finance in the next 4-5 years. My credit score right now is 521.

Here are my outstanding debts.

Truck- current every month.

Net Credit $5800 - 180 days deliquent.

Rise Credit $3200 - 180 days deliqent

Regional loans - $2740 charged off never hurd a word from them

Things that went to collections.

One Main was $7200 I settled for $2900

Citi Bank - Credit corp solutions $1800 trying to settle for $900. Threating to sue.

Avadian cu - $832 havent hurd a word yet.

Amazon - $380 settled for $250

Affirm $443 get emails but thats it

papal $500 settled for $325

Ae $387 tying to settle for 387

AM I doing this right, just trying to settle as they come.

Re: Am I doing this right?

Whether you're doing it right or not is subjective. Settling vs paying makes no difference score-wise, but there will be a comment in your reports saying you settled for less if you do end up settling.

I would try to get those Net and Rise credit accounts current before they too get charged off and/or end up in collections.

Re: Am I doing this right?

@Superk88 I am honestly surprised that Rise hasnt charged off the account yet. Maybe because it has a hugher balance than mine, but they CO'd me after hitting/ reporting 30d late. It went to NCB, who will negotiate pay for delete, but the entire balance only. I would avoid that route and deal with Rise now and get current before getting charged off, which will likely be sooner than later with them.

Re: Am I doing this right?

So just to update this...instead of fightning everything...I got a consolidation loan with my mom as a co-signer....everything is now paid off ...everything beside my truck....hopefully my credit can go from 520 to at least 650 over the next two years.

Re: Am I doing this right?

That's great that they're paid off now. Were you able to do so before those late accounts were charged off, so you could pay them off current?

You will see score gains, but 130 points is probably pushing it - paid or not, all of those late notations are still there. The 180-lates are serious score-killers, as are the presence of any charged-off accounts. With them paid and closed, it allows them to age but they'll definitely hurt until they're gone. A goodwill letter campaign should be the next step, to see if some of these can be removed from your reports. Wishing you the best on continuing to improve your scores. Keep asking questions as they come up and do update when your scores respond - those data points can be invaluable for others in a similar situation.

Re: Am I doing this right?

Yes Rise was paid before charge off.

And thank the lord I just unloaded my 36,500 dollar truck loan...Instead of driving a 2018 f150 for 720 a month I drive a 99 tacoma thats paid for and has 290k on the odemeter.

With the new debt consolidation its really time to start doing some damage.
