Am I understanding correctly?

So if I get PFD's for my debts even if they are old, it will help my credit even if the accounts are old? I have some zero balances from years ago that are still lingering around.

What derogs have been reported on the unpaid, delinquent debt?

If you had a debt with an OC that is unpaid but now showing a $0 balance, that means the creditor has reported that they no longer own the debt.

Thus, they would no longer be able to take any payment of the debt, including a PFD.

Their reporting would thus be addresed by requests for their good-will deletion.

Have debt collectors reported a collection?  If so, you could send a PFD offer to them.

You would write GW letters to the reporting CA and ask for their removal.   http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Rebuilding-Your-Credit/GW-letter-Q-amp-A-Examples-and-GW-Success-Stories/td-p/1573680
