Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

I've broken through the 600 barrier on all 3 bureaus post student loan rehab!

EX: 634

EQ: 612

TU: 604

The US Dept of Ed collection accounts were removed from both EX and TU so far. EQ is lagging a bit behind. Fortunately and unfortunately, FedLoan only ever reported to EQ and TU, not EX. So I have a completely clean, but non existent installment loan credit history on EX. Looking forward to Great Lakes reporting my loans in the upcoming months, satisfying my credit mix and increasing my average age of open accounts.

Hopefully my FedLoan TLs are deleted on EQ and TU, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

I feel this so much about being foolish. When I was around 18/19 I had about 80k in open credit cards and loans minus my student loans and car loan it was crazy.

I filed chapter 7 and plan on rebuilding my credit up by about 25 to buy a house and get everything straighten out.

@Caliboy97 You're definitely not the only one. You're gaining knowledge I wish I had in my early 20's. From one Cali kid to another, hopefully you're in a much better position by the time you're my age given the information on these boards, your due diligence and time healing your credit wounds.

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

Great Lakes reported my "new" current student loans backdated all the way to 2013 today. These are by far my oldest accounts. I gained 11pts on EX.

What's interesting is that they reported my 4 loans as 1 new loan. Is that normal? I thought that would only happen if I consolidated.

I feel good about the progress that I've made and am encouraged by the financial habits I'm developing along the way. I understand that my paid charge-off from Wells Fargo is going to hold me back for another few years (they've already rejected my GW attempts, but I'll keep trying), but I still only have the one collection from Fair Collections and Outsourcing that I'm paying down on a payment plan. If I could somehow get them off of my report, I'd see a major score boost. They're an awfully tough nut to crack apparently. When I first set up my payment plan with them, I was just worried about litigation and assumed they'd remove the collection from my report upon repayment, but that does not seem to be the case.

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

Got approved for a Savor One today after receiving an email pre-approval. Biggest actual limit so far. It'll be nice not having to cycle the limit so many times a month.

SL $1000

No bonus

0% intro purchase APR for 9 months

I needed a 3rd revolver to replace My Jeweler's, as the annual fee is due next month and I had no interest in paying it. I'm not a huge fan of CO's triple pull, but I really like the reward structure on this card as a complement to my QS and Discover It Secured. Now, I'm off to the garden until next year to let my cards age. Next steps include hitting 650 and waiting for my Discover It to graduate!

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

Another quick update, I've paid off my only collection in full so now Fair Collections and Outsourcing shows a zero balance. It feels great to have honored my financial responsibility as well as remove any collections debt from my credit report. I just wish they would delete it from my report. If somehow that happened, I'd jump up into pretty solid territory. Regardless, I'm happy to have reached this milestone in my credit repair journey, satisfying all debt obligations other than my student loans.

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

Hit a cool milestone today. I prequal'd for the suite of Delta cards.

Amex prequal.JPGAmex prequal.JPG

This is the first time I've ever prequalified for any AMEX. I thought I'd have to wait until I was over a 670 in order to see that. I've also been getting spammed with emails asking me to apply for the base Hilton Honors card over the last couple of months. The Hilton cards are on my list for sure, but I don't think I'd get much value out of the Delta cards as I'm generally a United/Star Alliance flier.

I'm not going to apply for anything though. I'm still gardening until next year. I don't want to jeopardize my Disco secured graduation by being overly credit seeking and I'd like to try for a Chase card at some point next spring and this would put me at 5/24. Tougher to resist than I thought it would be.

EX8 647

EX9 686

Now, if only FCO would stop denying my goodwill requests...

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

It's been a year to the day, so I figured I might as well wrap this thread up with an update and a bit of reflection.

A year ago my EX8 score was 517, over a hundred points lower than the 646 I currently have. I set a goal of a 650 for myself. I didn't quite get there in a year, but I'll give myself...credit...for coming pretty close. Getting two of my 3 collections removed, paying my outstanding debts (including my WF charge off), and rehabbing my student loans, coupled with opening a couple new accounts and implementing AZEO allowed me to realize these gains.

Here are a few thoughts related to my rebuild that I'd like to share:

-Student loan rehab goes by a lot quicker than one thinks. At least, it felt that way to me. The results are so worthwhile.

-Celebrate the small successes along the way. It helps to document your journey either here or privately.

-Understand that progress may not be realized in a linear fashion and there may be less than desired score swings.

-AZEO is a great practice to reinforce one's understanding of statement dates and due dates, while simultaneously giving a bit of a score boost.

-No two rebuilds are the same

-Maintaining a healthy savings and the credit hobby are inexorably linked.

-This forum is a treasure trove of great advice.

-Goodwill requests are unlikely, but worth the effort.

-Try to stick to prequals and minimize inquiries during a rebuild.

-Time eventually heals all wounds and patience is key.

Thanks to everyone in this subforum for providing me with the information I've needed to rebuild my credit profile. I'm glad to have found such a knowledgeable and helpful community.

Re: Another 2020 rebuild thread

Yesterday I snagged the card I stated was a goal card in the first post of this thread. approval.JPGapproval.JPG

Haven't quite hit 650 yet, but it feels great to have achieved this goal in a little over a year.

My rebuild is still ongoing as I'm still sending out GW letters, but I had to thank this sub forum again for providing so much help and information. I'll try my best to pass it on.

Congrats on getting your goal card.
Tangible rewards of a rebuild  are great!
