Anyone Have Experience with Using a Consumer Attorney?

Hi all,

I spoke with a consumer attorney who said they would take two of my credit issues for free.  I have a charge off with US Bank that is reporting a balance even though they no longer own it and Portfolio Recovery is threatening legal action after my state's SOL has expired, a very big no no.

I'm deciding if I should go for it or if I should try on my own first with a BBB complaint with Portfolio and maybe get a letter from the new owner on the US Bank charge off that says they are the new owner and USB has sold them the debt.  The difficulty is the new owner is not reporting so it's hard for the CRA's to see the problem.

The attorney thinks they can win money for me at no cost to me but my main concern is getting into a long drawn out issue.  Has anyone done this?  Do things like this take a long time to resolve?  Since these guys only get paid if they win a lawsuit, I'm guessing that they finding a simple solution is not likely if I retain them.

Thank you for any advice.
