Authorized user question

My husband has three credit cards that I am not an authorized user on...two with no lates and one with one 30 day late on it.  I am the authoriZed user on one card but it is newer.  Should I have him add me to the older accounts?  We are trying to improve our credit scores to get approved for a mortgage in about six months.  I don't want to open any new ones at this time.  Suggestions?

Re: Authorized user question

Some card issuers report an AU and it helps, and others don't.

For example, BarclaysCard reports my wife as an AU but the details are null, and shows no credit limit info or anything.

Each issuer varies, so keep that in mind.

Re: Authorized user question

They did back a few years ago - you should be good there. The credit union I can't answer.

Re: Authorized user question

Your LO will ask you to be removed as a AU on those accounts..FYI

Re: Authorized user question

Does that work for everyone? When we did out mortgage with BofA a few years back, out LO had me add my wife to my Citi card I had since I was 18 to help her score out.

I was under the impression that this is dependent on the lender.

Re: Authorized user question

I real "true" lender would not do that. I had to remove my wife as AU or the underwriter would've have an issue with it.....It gives them a false score/ inaccurate one.

Re: Authorized user question

Good to know.

I guess it all depends, but BofA had no issues with the loan we did with her added.

Thanks for the tip.

Does this apply only to mortgages or cars, too?

Re: Authorized user question

I guess the best Thing is to ask the lender we are going to wrk with.
