Hi everyone,
I haven't been around the forum in the last couple of months as there has been A LOT going on in my life. My husband and I worked very diligently over the last 2 years to clean up our credit with great success, with our end goal being to purchase a new home. The home that we bought almost 15 years ago had become much too small and cramped for us and was no longer meeting our wants or needs. Well, in June, we finally met that goal. We got pre-approved for a mortgage, found our dream home, and made an offer, which was initially only supposed to be a backup offer since the home was already under contract with another buyer and we would be the next offer if that buyer fell through. We got a call from our realtor a couple of days after submitting our offer informing us that not only was our offer accepted, but we were no longer the backup offer, that the first buyer had fallen through due to financing issues and we officially went under contract.
Very sadly, only about 4 or 5 days after signing the purchase and sales agreement, on June 28th, my husband very suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from a pulmonary embolism. He was only 52. He had just turned 52 only 3 weeks prior to his passing. I'll be 41 next month and never in a million years did I expect to become a widow at such a young age, yet here I am. We had been together for 22 years. Thankfully, my husband was fully prepared and had a life insurance policy in place for me, which allowed me to pay off our debts and leave me with enough of a nest egg to be able to continue with the purchase of our dream home. I just closed on the home this afternoon. Ironically, a couple of days after my husband passed, we found out that the seller was one of his co-workers. After closing, I went to the new house and stood out on the back deck and just cried for about an hour. My husband was so excited about this home and kept talking about how he was going to turn the finished basement into his office/man cave and how happy he was that our dogs would have a huge fenced in yard to run and play in as well as a pool. It wasn't supposed to be like this, but I am so grateful that we worked so hard on our credit together as a team and were able to get to this point. It's just heartbreaking that he's not here to celebrate this accomplishment of meeting our goal.
For those of you who are still working on your credit and have goals of buying a new home or a car, don't give up. There were times when my husband and I thought that we would never get to this point, but we did, and I was able to carry out our dream after his passing.

@jrwa81 I am so sorry for your sudden and traumatic loss. No words on here can even equate to what you are feeling rn. The title you stated is 100% on point. In time may the tears you cry now slowly fade into tears reminding you of all the laughs, loves and living you and your husband shared.
My Moms husband (2nd marriage) died unexpedectly and sadly he had not prepared the way your husband had so her world literally and figuratley was turned upside down including his 3 children having dollar signs instead of pupils. Thankfully my Mom was able to stay in the house they shared and will be able to until she passes. Then this house will then return to his kids to do as they please. Such a shame as they were together for 20+ years, lived a loving, happy and blessed life with all the luxuries imagined. But he never got around to putting the house in my moms name as well as on his life insurance, 401k's etc. I say this only bc I am so happy and relieved that you are not in that position. Congratulations on your new home and although it is hard to see rn, your husband is with you! Stay connected to us, we are all behind you!
I greatly appreciate all of the kind words! This has been a very difficult time in my life. It absolutely shatters my heart that once we had finally achieved our goal of being able to buy our dream home, my husband was so suddenly taken from this world at much too young of an age. Never in a million years could I have seen this coming. We had been together for a total of 22 years (married for 20) and were rarely ever apart in those 22 years.
I am extremely grateful that our best friend (who has been our best friend for 21 years) has been coming over ever single night since he passed and is helping me prepare to move and has taken on the job of cleaning out and packing up my husband's office since that's just not something I can handle right now. It's too emotional. She's been like family to my husband and I since we had only been together for about a year and a half, so she's been there since almost the beginning. My husband was like a little brother to her. I also have very supportive parents. Thankfully, my new home is only a 10-12-minute drive from them.
While the passing of my husband has practically broken me and I feel like half of me died with him, I am very excited for this new home and I know my husband would be so happy and proud that I went ahead with it. He was the one who made this possible with his life insurance I couldn't be more grateful. I was also very blessed in that my husband's employer paid for his entire funeral, so I didn't have to use one penny of his life insurance or retirement funds to pay for that.
