Hi,
I have read a lot on these boards about the Goodwill letters, and requesting late payments be forgiven or removed. I am wondering if the Goodwill letters might be worth trying for my situation or if it is too late.
Back story: filed BK in 2016. During the procedure, off of bad advice from my attorney, I stopped paying on some of my credit cards but continued paying on other things. So the credit cards I stopped paying on show 90 late then CO.
Now not only does my credit report have the public record of a BK, but it is showing all of those late payments.
I had never been late a day until I got that advice from the attorney, and on my new accounts since then, not one late payment.
I am still struggling getting decent rates for loans or getting my scores up. I know this is in part from the way I have paid off loans before they run their course, carry balances on my CC but then pay them off in lump sums, etc...but I feel like those late payments are still hurting me more then they should be after 6 years.
Do I try to get those late payments removed? Thoughts?
That was indeed bad advice from an attorney. Sorry that happened to you.
As for your question, unfortunately, since the accounts got CO'd, then getting lates removed wouldn't do a thing, as the CO status is pretty much as bad as it gets besides BK (which you also have), and supersede the late payments. Plus, if they were burned and never paid back they would have no incentive whatsoever to even consider a GW late removal.

Thank you, I kind of thought that would be the case but I struggle, even after 6 years, getting my scores up. Was hoping it might help a little. I will keep plodding along...lol

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
On the plus side, the late payments/CO accounts will come off next year, so there's at least that. The BK will either come off next year or in 4 more years, depending on whether it was a Ch13 or a Ch7, respectively.
Also, @Anonymous, if you wish to perhaps get additional advice, you could try posting everything about your current profile: all credit cards, limits, ages, current balances, minimum payments, ALL baddies, income (if you wish), and any open/closed installment loans, be they student/personal/auto/mortgage along with their respective balances, minimum payments, and interest rates. Then maybe we can try to find out why your scores seem to be "stuck."
@OmarGB9 thank you for that advice. I may do that as I don't seem to get anywhere after 6 years. It will take a bit to get all the info but I will do it. Where would you suggest I post it once I have all the information together?

No worries, we'll be here waiting.
You could either post it here, or create a new thread. Maybe starting a new thread would be slightly better, since it'll address something a little different.
