CA Problem

How long can a CA report a collection account after the OC has dropped off?

Re: CA Problem

They both drop off 7 - 7.5 years after the DOFD.  The CA has to drop off at the same time as the OC.

The only time this may not happen is if the OC removed the account early for what ever reason.

The CA can still report the full time.

Is it a paid collection?  Have you sent a DV letter to the CA.

Re: CA Problem

Yes I sent a DV. They sent me back a letter with the Balance of what I owe and the OC name? I never had an account with the OC. They say I was a co-applicant. They say this was back in 1998. The OC dropped off about 2 years ago. No I never paid

When they sent the balance, was it a computer print out of what they already had on file or something obtained directly from the OC?

Have you contacted the OC about this?

I would file complaints with the BBB, your AG, and their AG against the OC to determine whether you have been misidentified or someone actually used your ID and opened an account.

If it is determined that someone used your ID to open the account, then I would file a police report and ID theft affidavit.
