Cancelling a dispute

Hi. I recently disputed (2 days ago) some late payments since it was only reporting to one credit bureau (TU) while EX/EQ shows no late payments but after reading some DPs, it could backfire and the original creditor could validate it and update the other two bureau with the late payments or refresh the information with the credit bureau (TU) in question with an update. If I were to call TU today and cancel the dispute, will that stop the dispute going forward regardless if the original creditor responded or not?

No it will not stop any updates, the OCs are typically informed immediately with e-oskar

Sadly, once disputes are set in motion there is no going back. As mentioned above, notification is instantaneous to the creditor and any uodate or verifications may well be to all 3Bs.

 

Unfortunately something happened similarly to my SO recently. Instead of calling in for EE he put in a dispute with EX and not only was it "verified", but they also updated the accounts with EQ and that crashed his scores with them! Nothing was affected with TU reporting since they were EE'd off back in June (meaning there were no accounts to update), thankfully! In his case, it is only 3 months tops of score supression before they age off EQ, anyway.

 

In your case, I would have just been happy the lates were not reporting on 2 bureaus, but since you did decide to dispute, I sincerely hope they do not get added on to the other Bs now.

Thank you for your insight.  Fortunately if they do come back with a negative update, those items will reach its 7 year make in December 2020.  On another note, I am surprise that the item didn't come back on the report even though it was EE?  I would assume it would "update" by adding the account back on with the correct data?

Less commonly known is that creditors can refuse EE, as they are notified when it is done. So if it is already EE'd, the creditor is unlikely to be placed back on, but there is always the possibility. So, they only update the accounts on the bureaus it is still reporting to.
