Child support lien

Man I made 2 payments yesterday one to discover and one to capital one to post today and child support lien my bank account. What worries me now is what would the credit cards do when not getting the money? I will resolve the lien tomorrow but now that the payment won't go thru will they close my accounts? Oh god

Re: Child support lien

Not sure what might happen -- some creditors definitely can take AA against a bounced payment.

One thing I always do is I "push" payments to credit cards FROM my bank, rather than "pull" payments from the credit card website from my bank.  By pushing the payments, they go out of my balance right away.

Maybe you can resolve the lien hold tomorrow -- enough to clear those payments.

Did you know your ex was going to court to get the child support payments?  Did you go to all the trials?  Sometimes that's enough to hold off a government backed lien.

Re: Child support lien

I pay every week my child support plus arrears it's that arrears are about 8k and every year out of the blue they lien my account. I go to child support make extra payment from the lien then they release the lien. Regardless now payment was set already with credit cards and now it will come back.

Re: Child support lien

How close to your due date are you? It's possible that Cap1 and Discover may both forgive one returned payment, but if you're close to a due date it may cause you to be late by the time you make another payment schedule.

Re: Child support lien

It usually takes about 3 days for my payments to hit my accounts. I would deal with getting the lien released first thing and if you can't, call the creditor's and see about stopping the payment.

Re: Child support lien

Should I call them and cancel the payment if that's even possible now?

Re: Child support lien

Generally, they may pop you for a bounced fee but closing an account over 1 returned payment ain't gonna happen...trust me ppl do far worse in trying to keep their payments looking paid, yours is just a hiccup

If this is a recurring issue ( you said it happens yearly) why not separate the accounts where this stuff happens a daily use checking account and a payments checking so if hiccups occur there isn't a domino effect.
