My oldest card by a long shot is roughly 6 years olds. I have about 4 more at the 3 ish year mark. And 2 at 2 months.
My oldest is Cap 1 (Secured Platinum)(6yrs old)
I also have the Journey(5 yrs old) and Walmart(2 months old) with Cap 1
I have 2 Credit Ones. Plan to cancel soon. 2 years old
Also a Merrick Bank. 3 years old
And most recently as of yesterday the Apple Card. 1 month
If i close the oldest (cap 1 platinum secured) does that still account on my AAoA? Or would it be smart to just keep it going. I'd like to just get the venture or venture x instead of that basic card that I never use but I can't apply for a new one cuz they say I have too many accounts.
Question. Whats stopping you for better cards? And Cap1 is still secured after 6 yrs? Open or closed cards count against the metrics. Closed cards up to roughly 10 yrs.

Im at the end of my 7 year mark when I kind of let everything go due to a job loss. By Mar '23 my last 2 baddies and all 3 collections will fall off across all 3 reports. EXCEPT for 1 that is scheduled for Jul 23' and I also have a Cap 1 auto loan that has like 10 lates (30 days) i could never get up on but still paid monthly and paid the loan. Those lates are from pretty much all of 2017, and 2 in 2016. Im trying to get goodwill from them but no budge . That might be why it hasn't been able to get upgraded? It is sort of frustrating.
If you close it now, it will stay on your account for up to 10 years. So it shouldn't affect your AAoA, the only thing it affects is your overall utilization and your number of cards with a balance. If you generally keep your cards paid off or low util, then I would go ahead and close the secured card.
Went to close my credit one account and they told they would remove the annual fee. Decided to keep it a little longer but fully closed my other one.
Decided to close the platinum, but ended up keeping that after speaking to someone that said I don't have too many accounts, so it wont hurt my chances at the venture but did end up getting an upgrade from journey student card to the Quicksilver! Pretty excited about that!
Time to just let all my accounts age and finish cleaning up my report I think before I fully get rid of my beginner cards.
