Collection Account

I just recently purchased a home, and today I found out that a collection agency has contacted my partners parents to tell them that we are being sued and they will go after the house. His Mom asked for information on this supposed lawsuit, and they would not give her any. Strange thing is, this debt is about 6 years old, and only about $2000. I haven't been served papers against this, and the statute of limitations has expired. Is this just a scare tactic? I was not even on the loans for this home purchase, just on the title so it makes it even more puzzling. Should they just tell to not contact them again?

Fiinally, his Mom is also on this house, so technically she would have a right to the information as well, so it seems like it must be a scare tactic from the agency right?

Re: Collection Account

Is the CA reporting on your CR?

If not and you are certain SOL is expired, I would send them a cease and desist letter.

If they threatened to take action they can not legally take...that is a violation of FDCPA.
