Collection Agency problems

MODs move if need be (it is more general)

Has anyone made arrangements with a collection agency where you agreed on a Wednesday to make payment on Saturday. The payment is cashed and for the amount you agreed to and they still harass you even after they made the payment. When you talk to them they are nasty and rude (as they always are) even after they cashed your check? Do you feel it is better paying the money you owe to the debt or to the collection agency? Just wanted to get opinions on this.

Thanks

Re: Collection Agency problems

This is one of many reasons why I never ever call a CA. And yet another reason why I never make payment arrangements with a CA.

A CA's word it not their bond. Remember, each rep you talk to likely earns a commission each time they collect $1 from you. Therefore, it is in their interest to get you to pay more and quick.

IMO, never pay a CA, unless via a PFD. Once you pay that account, you lose your leverage for a PFD. A paid CA is just as bad as an unpaid CA per your score. And never make payment arrangements unless they have filed a judgment. Otherwise, PIF via a PFD after a DV.

My thoughts anyway.

Re: Collection Agency problems

Did you make payment in full? Or just a payment on an installment agreement with them?

IMO, if they agreed to payments and are harrassing you even though you are sticking to your agreement, it is a violation of FDCPA.

Do you have the payment agreement in writing?

Re: Collection Agency problems

It was only a very very small payment (only one) but when i looked at my online account with original credit the payment was posted there not with the agency. I am just going to continue to pay the original debtor and skip the middle man. I asked for it. but we will see if they send it.

Re: Collection Agency problems

See my above post, the payment went to the original creditor not the agency. I hate being in debt but i hate agencies even more. This is my first collection agency call in about 4 years. still cleaning up my debt.
