Collection BE GONE!

I have a $59 collection from 2002 that is keeping my score buried at 680.

Should I write a letter to the credit bureaus to have this item removed?

How do I make this go away for good?

Re: Collection BE GONE!

Do you have a report directly from a CRA? On an EQ report look for DOFD, on EX and TU look for date of removal. Or do you know when you first went delinquent?

It appears that this is getting close to CRTP being expired.

Re: Collection BE GONE!

Thank you Sidewinder. Do you reccomend writing the CRA's and informing them that this item is soon to be obsolete and removed from CR?

Once the item is removed can I expect my score(s) to reflect?

No, they know when it is due to be removed.  Do you know the DOFD or removal date? It may not be close, I said it just appears it is from the information you've given so far.

Is this your only collection? As old as it is, if it isn't your only one, I wouldn't expect much of a change. I also wouldn't expect a great increase if it is your only one, due to the age. You just really never know how a score will change on something like this. But, yes your score will stop including it once removed.

Re: Collection BE GONE!

Side,

I have a similiar situation. It is on my exper report. It is from 2002 and was pd to them it 2002. Now the report says status details: this item was verified and updated on 12/08. I tried to have it removed but it came back as verified. It says account history collection as of 12/08. What should I do? Something doesn'r seem right here. It seems like this is new. Any advice?

Re: Collection BE GONE!

You should always wait and let it drop. The drop date goes by DOFD not the date paid. You can get the drop date by looking at your CR pulled direct from EX or TU. It will not show on any monitoring service.

Re: Collection BE GONE!

Do you have a TU or EQ report or is this only reporting on EX?

If only reporting on EX, call them or write them asking for the FCRA Compliance Date or removal date.

Do not use the address for disputing if you write them. If you call, make certain they know you are not disputing, but just asking for more information.
