Collection Removal Help

Afternoon.  I am in the process of trying to clean up my wife's CR and need some help with two potential collections.  Her FICO scores are currently EQ: 672, TU: 664 and EX: 704.  Before we were married, she filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy due to the result of a divorce.  I understand, there is nothing I can do about that, but I am trying to clean up other issues.  On her CR, TU and EQ (not EX and thus probably the reason why that score is much higher) list two collections from medical bills - one for 291, and one for 97 dollars.

With the information that was provided on the CR (a portion of the account number), I was able to go through her old checks and find matches.  The CA's are listed as "Cons Rec Sys" and "833YC00000" on EQ/TU.  Well, the thing is she never dealt with the collection agency in the past or even knew of their existence. The checks were made out to "Methodist Hospital" and all payments are accounted for - on the CR, it lists 0 as the balance on both collections.  So what would be the best way to handle this situation - should I contact Methodist Hospital and ask them to contact the CA?  I am not sure why they would go out of their way to do this.  Should I simply dispute with TU and EQ - and quite honestly, what would I dispute?  She obviously owed the medical bills and she paid them, but apparently it was still turned over to collections.

The dates of the last payment were both in 2013, so it has a long way before it would fall off on its own.  I am note sure if contacting the CA and asking for a GW would help?  I really do not know how to proceed and any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Collection Removal Help

I believe I will contact the CA tomorrow and explain that payments were made directly to OC and see what their stance will be. I am not sure what else to do at this point.

Re: Collection Removal Help

Okay I will try to help with my past experience. To me it sounds like your wife was late on the payments thats why they went to collections, she then found out about the accounts and paid the OC directly, that would explain the checks going to the hospital. So what we have here is two paid collections account, which is the exact problem I am dealing with, and you want them removed.

I got EXTREMELY lucky and just called one of the collection agency for one of my accounts, ( which happened to be from a hospital for 117 dollars ) , I told the rep my situation and she said " We don't usually do this but I can delete your account, it will take one to two months before it is reflected on your CRs". So I got lucky there.... BUT I have another 100 dollar one with sprint which was turned over to collections, I called sprint directly and paid off the balance and I asked them to tell the CA to delete the account, few days passed and I called again and they said the CA would not delete the account because it is credit battering ( please correct me not sure what she said here ) , or basically misinformation. She said I would be stuck with that one for seven years, I plan on writting GWs to the CA diversified adjustments. They then said I could dispute with the 3 Credit Bureaus??? I'm not sure what I would dispute , so yeah I have been searching for the same answer to your question. Let me know how it goes! Good luck
