Is it possible for a collection that was not in my reports to update their trademark on my Transunion when I already paid for it? A utility bill under my name went to collections after my sister in law didn't pay it without me knowing from 2018. I just found out about it when I needed to switch my current utility from my ex's name to my name. I paid it all off. It's not reporting on any of the credit bureaus and today I got an update on my Transunion that it updated to $0. It didn't affect my score but I have another record of collection added. I paid the utility company directly and not the collection agency. Can I ask the CA to remove it?
I would ask the utility company to recall it/ask the CA to delete their reporting since you paid the utility company directly and before it was on your CR.

Once its been paid there is no such thing as recalling the collectors. You need to request this PRIOR to paying as it removes the collection authority. A CA has the legal right to report once its been paid to the OC even if their TL wasnt apparent at the time.

Yes, you would want to write the reporting CA a goodwill letter asking for removal of the TL
As long as the debt collector had legit collection authority at some point in time, they can report their collection to the CRAs. While it is not common for a debt collector to first report their collection after the debt is paid, it is permissible.
The collection should be reported/updated to show closed, paid, $0 balance.
Payment of the debt, regardless of to whom it is paid, is not per se basis for requiring deletion of, or preventing first reporting of, a collection. That is specifically stated numerous times in the common credit reporting manual used by each of the big-3 CRAs. The CRAs only mandate deletion of a reported collection if the debt collector has had their collection authority terminated prior to payment of the debt.
That is not the case when the debt is paid while a collection remains active.
You can contact the debt collector and request them to voluntarily delete their collection, but there is no basis for requiting that they do so.
