Hello everyone, I have a unpaid collection with Credit Collection Services that was not due to drop off until the end of 2027 or beginning of 2028 and it fell off of two of the major bureaus this week. I had a similar instance about a year ago and it went to a different collection agency. I called the new collection agency and paid it off before they posted it to my report, thus removing it from my report three years early.
Could I be on the verge of the same thing happening again? The original creditor is progressive insurance company. Should I call progressive and try to pay it off now or should I wait to see if it gets transferred to a new collection agency. When it does get transferred to a new collection agency do they always contact you before posting it to your credit report to try to recover it?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
If you could just pay it now, why didn't you just pay it before?
I'm not scolding, just very puzzled.
I personally would just sit tight. You have one and one half years to go before it falls off anyway. I'd let it go rather than making calls and stirring pots. If another collecter contacts me I'd just ignore it. It is a 6 year old debt that they didn't pay much for, and if they did that's on them.
This debt can disappear and reappear so long as it is within the reporting age. Once it is too old to be reported, it has to go away.
Thanks I appreciate the info.
If you think there's even a chance of it falling through the cracks, I'd sit back, watch and wait. Which report is it still being shown on? Maybe that hasn't updated yet.
I just checked again. It's actually dropped off of all three. I'm gonna take your advice and just sit and see. Thanks, I appreciate it.
The collection agency could have sent it back to the Insurance Company or transferred it to another collection agency. Wait a few days, then contact the insurance company to see if you can pay them directly.
