well you will have to face it unless you want to be stuck with for the next 2 years and still have this baddie on your report.
Try to ask for a PFD and see how this goes....
it never hurts to ask.
The time it can remain on file is up to 7.5 years from the DoFD, the DoFD on phone bills is the 30 day late after the billing and CRTP is calculated from this point. If the item is 6 yrs old it doesnt have much more time since the CRAs will typically schedule their removal at 7 year mark to remain within the law. If this is not updating monthly now you need to get the PFD from them or you are going to get a Fico score drop when they report it as paid. You have some considerations to mull over here.

It's sort of the situation if with my ATT wireless bill, which I am the primary, there are 4 family members on the line including me, I realize I and I alone am responsible for ensuring it is paid if not it'll go to collections. Currently I charge half the bill to a family's cc and half to mine. If the situation were to arise such that the othe family member cannot pay, I'd pay it ALL on my card to AVOID it going to collections and eat it up if the family does not want to pay, then remove them from my ATT account. That way it is clean and no collections, etc. In the current OP post, it is in collections, if i were me I'd pay it off and be done with it and eat it up, otherwise it is lingering there and a monkey on your back.
I wouldn't touch it. Youu've waited 6 yrs with it, what's 1 more.
They could update to the CRA's making it recent or up to date, then there's that fight you have to deal with.
Waiting for credit report exclusion does not make the debt go away.
It only makes it harder for others to become aware.
If a prospective creditor asks for disclosure of any unpaid delinquent debt, which is common when seeking higher levels of credit, it could still be basis for denail.
