Collection

I had a old credit card with Belk's that went into collections. The collection agency was not showing up on my credit report, but after paying it off, there was a new collections account added to my report showing as paid dropping my score by 45 points. I have heard that it is really hard to have this particular agency, Calvary Portfolio to remove collections from a report. Any suggestions or advice?

Re: Collection

I don't have any experience with that particular collection agency, however I just paid a collection that wasn't on my credit yet. I am nervous they will report it to my credit report. How long after you paid it did it show up on your credit?

Re: Collection

I would argue in a GW to them that reporting after payment is not really in their best future interests, and that deletion would be beneficial to both you and them.

In this day and age of consumer access to their credit reports, a primary reason why debt collectors report their collection is to put pressure on consumers to pay in the hope that they can reduce impact on their credit score.

If they conduct a practice of reporting after the consumer pays the debt, I would argue that it undermines future consumer incentive to pay.

They are capitalists, not humanitarians.  They are more concerned with collecting $$ than promoting the integrity of the credit reporting system by supplementing consumer payment history for view by others.

Perhaps an appeal to their wallets.........?
