Im trying to rebuild my credit score. I have a recent collectio that is about a year old. I got a letter saying that i was being taken to court. I called the creditor and i paid them in full the balance and i didnt have to go to court. I dont see they reported to the bureau that i paid. How can i improve my score in the in the least time. I have 13 credit cards and the have $0 balances. I cannot even get approved for a secured credit card and i have a 635 credit score. Pls help !
It's very good that you avoided a judgement ( if you had avoided the court warning.) Did you ask them in advance ( of PIF) for a written guarantee that they would either show this as PIF\closed or have the CB remove it? Did you get such a letter before paying? If not, you will need to start a serious campaign of letters, disputes, etc. to the CA and the orig. creditor. If the CA won't budge, the orig. creditor might step in to help.
If you paid the debt, then the debt collector was required to promptly update the balance on their collection to $0 and close the collection.
FCRA 623(a)(2). If they did not do so then file a dispute asserting inaccuracy of the current reporting by the debt collector.
While paying discharges the debt and thus is of substantial advantage, it does not result in any requirment for deletion of the reported collection, only update to reflect payment of the debt. Thus, it wont result in immediate score improvment. You can request a good-will deletion from the debt collector, but deletion is discretionary on thier part.
It might be more beneficial to first request a GW deletion before filing a dispute of their reporting, as a dispute might act contrary to their grant of a GW deletion.
