Collection

I just got a collection to hit my report and was about to apply for either a secured card or one for bad credit. Now I am wondering what should I do. I was told to have 3 credit cards and I only have two. I wanted to have the three cards and work on collections, but now I am wondering how should I approach this.

I havent done anything yet, and yes I do owe the company. Its a light bill from 2014. I lost my job and was evicted from apartment and moved into a shelter.

Re: Collection

I would make a PFD offer to the debt collector, which, if accepted, would both discharge the debt and remove the collection from scoring.

If you send a timely DV, you will place the debt collector under a cease collection bar, which will prevent any response to a PFD offer until they have first sent debt validation.

If the debt is valid, then a DV would likely not be the best next step.

I am unsure what a ceas collection bar is. I don't have $2000 to send a PFD at the moment. But are you telling me not to a DV? I can't do a DV then do a PFD? Also, if the debt is still owed by orginial creditor is it ok to contact them? I had an experience in the past were I paid a creditor and the collection agency removed it, but it was years ago. I want to do the best thing possible in trying to get it removed.
