Collections Account Sold Without Notice

I was making payments to a CA that resulted from a apartment lease I had to break. I found out after sending a monthly payment that they no longer had my account. It was sold to another CA. The original CA returned my payment to me. I have not received any communication from the new CA. Should I contact the New CA and start sending them my payments or just forget it. The balance left on the account is less than $800. I do plan to buy a home in next 2 years. Right now Im trying  to raise credit scores by decreasing credit card balances.

Next question: I want to buy with spouse but he has 3 credit cards that were charged off and 7 medical collections that range in amounts $67-$848. As a result his mid credit score is 498. I know these have to be paid.

Where do I begin? what should be paid first? I know HIPPA letters should be begin with the medical collections but which ones first? They are all  more than 3 years old. We live in the state of NC. I think the SOL has passed.

Thanks for responding. Both credit reports have been requested. I have taken detailed notes and will get to work with credit repair for both reports. Will keep my FICO family posted on my progress. I have learned  some very helpful information on this siteWoman Very Happyhose

Is anyone reporting the collection you were paying on?

As for your husband, check the "State Resources" link in my signature and read up on SOL laws in your state and how the time is computed. This will help you determine if beyond SOL or not.

If all are beyond SOL, then I would deal with the ones that I could PIF right away.

On the CO CCs, who is reporting?

Re: Collections Account Sold Without Notice

Thanks for the response. I will check the SOL for my state right away.

Regarding the charged off credit cards for spouse; HSBC Bank is reporting for 2 of the cards and Applied Bank reports for the 3rd one. Applied Bank has sent a letter requesting payment but we have not responded yet. The amount they say is owed is $1087 however more than $500 of that is interest and late fees. No letters from HSBC in past year.

As for my CA that I was paying on.  NCCBS last reported August 2008 as KD. Despite me making monthly payments they never reported the payments status correctly to any of the 3 bureaus. Listed as unpaid to EQU, placed for collection to TU and seriously past due/assigned to collection dept to EXP.

Re: Collections Account Sold Without Notice

If only the OC is reporting on your spouse's CC, then if you can PIF or settle, IMO, do that to avoid a CA listing as well.

On your CA, is the CA still reporting? The CA that doesn't have the debt any longer? If so, they have to stop reporting and remove the account.

If you can PIF, then I would get the new CA paid before they report. Get it in writing that they won't report. If you can't PIF, then try to negotitate a PFD on payment arrangements. After you make your payments per the agreement, they will remove the account if they report.
