Hi: Are your credit cards charged off? Do you have any secure credit cards or any credit at this point?
Don't panic, many have been in this situation before.
I think the most important thing you can do is not panic and have a plan. Actually right it down and plan out a schedule.
I would start off with a couple of secured credit cards, capital one and discover to start. Start with the minimum deposits, wont matter that much if you get a $200 limit or $2,000 limit at this time.
Sign up for a self lender account, lowest plan $50 a month for 12 months and then they send you a check for $600, total cost of this is $15, worth it in my opinion.
Use the cards for 6 months and never exceed 10% of available credit.
After 6 months apply for 2 more secured cards, all major banks have them BoA, Wells, Citi, etc.
Sign up for a credit monitoring solution, lots of them to choose from around $20/mo, keep track of all your information.
While your credit is slowly building back up, you need to close down the collection, look for threads on how to speak with collection companies.
Good Luck
I agree, I would start by listing the cards that are charged off. Because its hard to rebuild without settling those. It would be hard to get over 620 score with charged off cards. You will be amazed at how willing the credit card companies would work with you to settle those (between 30-60% off the amount depending on the bank)
For secured cards I would go with capital one if you can get approved.
I made the mistake of doing First Progressive first before capital one secured when I was rebuilding. I got approved but their payment portal is from the stone ages and they will never graduate you.
Welcome! First, take control of your collections. Call each collector and tell them they are no longer allowed to contact you at your place of employment. You can even insist all communication be in written form (mail). They have to comply with your request.
Second, don’t apply for anything yet. Can you list list all your collections here- amount, CA (collection agency) & OC (original creditor)? We can help you put together a game plan. How much can you budget each month to pay to take care of these?
Don’t pay attention to the scores from CK. Use CK to monitor your TU & EQ reports, & sign up for the free EX account. Read as much of this board as you can. Chances are you will find answers to questions you haven’t even thought of yet!
You can fix your credit, but it’s going to take sound financial discipline and good fiscal habits. Use a written budget to track your spending, build a savings account & don’t use credit to buy things with money you haven’t earned yet. Use credit cards as a convenient alternative to carrying cash, & pay your balances off in full every month.
