Collections Not Agreeing to PFD, what should be my next approach?

So I had an old cable bill and medical bill in collections which was on my credit report. I was successful in getting the cable bill off. I worked out an agreement with the time warner and the collections agency and they agreed to remove it completely. I tried that with the collections company handling the medical bill with no success.

I spoke with them and they said that they didn't do that anymore because the credit bureaus didn't like that and they had an agreement with them to "report accurately". I understand that with such agreement most companies wouldn't want to put pfd in writing. This particular collections company is very small and is ran by a husband and wife so I understand why they wouldn't want to put something in writing.

What would be my next best approach? The bill is only $92 but I would hate paying it only to see it still there. Would it benefit me in any way to pay it without having it be deleted?

I was thinking about calling them up and explaining that I am trying to buy a house (not true) and it is holding me back. LOLSmiley Very Happy

These steps will take care of the medical collection

Medical collections are some of the easiest to get removed from your CRs, here are the steps that you should follow to address them:

1. Call the OC and see if insurance can be billed, (or-rebilled), collections ultimately paid by insurance get removed per new rules that came from CRAs settlement with 22 state AGs. If not then
2. see if you qualify for Charity Care, if not then
3. ask that they recall the collection in exchange for full payment
4. Send the reporting CA a PFD offer
5. Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help, this process cannot be discussed in any forum of myFico.

As I undertand it, FICO 8 ignores any collections under 100.

They are not legally obligated to remove it. If they decided to stick to their guns, you will have no other recourse but wait for it to naturally fall off. Might as well pay it off and have it stop hurting you further and let the damage to begin healing.

For what it's worth, I won't do a settlement or a PIF with a collector unless they agree to remove the debt.

Anything else is a non starter. I do that because my debts arn't large debts (highest is 900, average maybe 300-500) and I know most likely they won't bother to sue. I have heard of people getting sued at those amounts I listed, but it's rare for the most part.
