DOFD Deletion?

Hello everyone.

I have a Military Star card on my CRs.  Still.  It wasn't paid off in full until 2007 but the DOFD was in 2002.  Shouldn't this be off my CR by now?  If so, what is the right way to have it removed?  If it is to dispute, what do I say in the dispute?

Re: DOFD Deletion?

it's my understanding that once you paid it in full, you brought the account back into a satisfactory status...which means it wouldn't fall off under the "bad account" rules, but under the "good account" rules.  but i could be wrong!  wait & see what others say.

Re: DOFD Deletion?

Had success a number of years ago with GW for Military Star.  Cann't imagine that this is having too much impact on you score since it's so old.  Not sure about the answer of when it will fall off on it's own.

Re: DOFD Deletion?

Hi try2fixit,

I’m in the same boat with a Discover card.   In 2003 I was extremely late and made a payment plan with Discover.  My card was closed and I made the final payment in 2008.   My credit reports are showing that this account will remain active on my credit history until 2018.  I’m sure my DOFD was early 2003 and my reports are still showing  120 day late Sept 2003, 60 day late Oct 2003 and 30 day late Nov 2003.  Since this is helping my AAoA, I’m not going to rock boat until I see if the days late drop off my report later this year.    All of the late payments prior to Sept 2003 have dropped off my credit report.   I’m hoping that the 7 year drop off for negative items on credit reports includes late payments on accounts that are now listed in good standing.

My question to you is when was your last late on this account?  If it is going to drop off soon, then leave the account alone, if not then GW Military Star and ask for it to be removed.

If I’m wrong please let me know.

Thanks

When was this account closed?

Were there just late payments with this or was it charged off or went to collections? If it was just late payments and you became current again then the account was once again in "good standing" and will stay on your reports for up to 10 years after the closing date. You don't want this removed because it is helping your AAoA and credit length history until it finally is gone.

The late monthly payments however will stay there for 7 years from each date of individual delinquency.

Have I completelty confused you now?  Smiley Happy

If it was paid after CO, it is still a negative account.

Re: DOFD Deletion?

I don't know if this was a charge-off or not.  It could've been but I don't think Military Star charges off squat.  They will take your taxes or garnish your wages via an Offset... they're going to get their money.  I didn't even know this account existed until I paid of my other Military Star card and asked for written confirmation.  They screwed up and didn't combine my military exchange accounts (Army and Navy).

On the CR, it is listed as date opened 2/1/2000, account status is closed, and payment status says "account transferred to another agency."  In the 24 mos. payment history on Experian (the CR from _ _ _ _ ), it shows OK in April, May, and June of 2002, then "ND" all the way until Jan 2004.  It shows OK again for Jan - Mar of 2004.  There are no other dates shown.  This account is not on my other CRs.
