Debt Validation for the first time, no response-but now showing on my credit report??

Forgive me if this is covered else where, I tried searching for it to no avail. But I still need help! I was recently --letter dated 12/6 --contacted by MCM stating I owe a debt blah blah past SOL, can't sue...I am not 100% sure what they are trying to collect, as I have a rough history. Currently I'm trying to rebuild so I have the opportunity to get a home in the future. In response to their notice of "attempt to collect a debt" I sent the following (certified, signature required, return receipt):

" I am writing to request validation for this debt. I am not sure who “Fia Card Services, N.A.” is, nor am I familiar with an account number of XXXXXXX, nor am I aware of owing any creditor a balance of $XXXX.XX. I am disputing this debt because I believe it does not belong to me. I am also requesting that your office only contact me through writing. Thank you. "

At the time of this letter, sent 12/26 - received 1/3, this account was not on my report. I have not heard back from them at all regarding this account. Now today, 1/23, I get an alert that the account has been added to my report!?!?!

It is showing as "consumer disputes this account information" but I thought they weren't allowed to report it at all if I got to them within the 30 day window- unless they provided validation? Someone please help me understand. Thank you!

You are correct.  If your DV was timely, they cannot report it to the CRAs until they validate the debt.  A DV is also not the same type of dispute that falls under FCRA and is not reportable to the CRAs.

I would file a complaint with the CFPB at this point.
