This is tough.
I hate admitting where I am with my credit scores adnd reports. HOWEVER, I'm jumping in and doing something about it NOW. As dogged as I've been about having a full and exciting life, I have to be as dogged about making sure that as I settle down I have options. Obviously, with crappy credit, my options dwindle. One day I may want a new car, buy a new home or have another life adventure and I don't want "no" for an answer.
I've got $1100 in credit card debt, $15,000 in student loans and a few late payments due to carelssness and irrespronsibility. I'm done with all that now. I'm ready. I've been lurky around here for a week or two, making benign contributions here and there and learning so much from so many. Admitting my poor scores may be tough, but keeping them in the gutter would be tougher. Now, I think I've got tools to get started.
A few things I've done in the past couple weeks:
I had my taxes done and my refund WILL NOT go to a vacation or new toy. I'll pay off the aforementioned credit card debt and pay down my loans. I'm disputing the balance on a couple of accounts and we'll see how I fare in a month or so. Also, despite the mixed reviews on the AMEX prepaid card, I received mine this weekend. I'm hoping that the lure of receiving an offer for one of their charge cards in six months will also keep me motivated.
So, when I log on to this site, I hear a song in my head. Think of it as a myFICO Forum theme song:
Use Me - by Bill Withers
"Keep on using me, 'till you use me up."
Don't worry myFICO Forum members, I'm using you, 'til I use you up (which will probably until I get in the high 700's)! Hope you don't mind.

LOL!!! @ using us up!!!!
I commend you for making the decision to clean up your credit and for using your tax $$$ for something like paying bills and not getting "toys" (I know its hard but its so worth it!) Shoes were my downfall. I have a new cars worth in my closet, and havent worn half of them. One day I decided, I WILL NOT be the old lady who lives in her shoes!
WAY TO GO!...And thanks, that song is stuck in my head now-LOL
