Dell and Trans Union question

I payed off two computers about 3 years ago and Dell is reporting I was late on an account about 4 or 5 years ago. I was in the military at the time and could have sworn I made arrangements for a late payment due to a deployment. I called Dell to try and get a GW removal, under the guise that I wanted to buy a new computer with them but couldn't until they removed the negative mark from my report. The Dell customer service rep said that since my accounts were no longer active/inactive for 2 years that I needed to contact the CRAs directly. The man from Trans Union was fun to deal with, probably due to the fact he knows he has me by the cajones. I told him I wanted to dispute my late charges. I know there are no sure things when it comes to credit repair, but if the Dell doesn't have my payment info anymore and therefore can't provide evidence of my lateness to Trans Union, doesn't it stand to reason the blemish will be removed? I am not getting my hopes up or anything.

Re: Dell and Trans Union question

See I think the wild card is the fact that the guy from Dell still insisted Dell couldn't help me even after I said I was willing to by a new computer, and believe me the guy was all too eager to sell me one even after he said he didn't have the info. While I know corporate accounts people rank morally somewhere between dictators and baby seal clubbers, I just don't see the advantage of lying to me when be simply giving the CRA's a ring they could have made at least 1100 bucks. Now Dell is gonna have to provide the CRA the info, if they have it, and they lost a customer. I realize there is no advantage for Dell to help me fix my credit score and I am probably being way too much of an idealist here, but I am hoping something can be done. BTW I have not tried the goodwill letter because the guy said he didn't have info about my account, other than the fact I did have 2 accounts with Dell that were paid off. After getting this info from him, I decided whether he was lying or not, a GW letter probably wouldn't work either way.
