Direct Dispute or PFD or something else I'm missing? Attacking a Capital One collection

Hello,

Thank you all in advance for your help. I'll sound like the broken record and say how thankful I am for this website and the vast helpful knowleadge.

I just pulled my 3B report from here and it says I have a Capital One card in collections. I believe I paid this in full years ago. It say's the 'date assigned' was Sep 17, 2013. I am unsure which direction I should go from here. Below is the description of the collection. They all state a $0 balance. If that's the case, shouldn't they NOT be in collections then? EQ and TU both say account paid for less than full balance so again, why would it be in collections?

My main question is who should I dispute this with? I thought I paid it in full (not sure how I could find proof of that) but could I try PFD with Cap One? or is this something I need to try with the collection agency?

I have a secured Cap One card with perfect payment history for a year. I recently got a preapproval for Capital One Venture card so I feel like I'm on their good side right now. Not sure if this information helps..

Thank you to anyone who can give me some advice. I am trying to wrap my brain around all of this and while this site has tremendously helped me out; I obvisously still have a lot to learn.

If the balance is $0 there is nothing to "pay" for a deletion, not with Cap One and not with a Collector - this is a "paid collection" and can remain on your reports for 7.5 years from the original default. The only thing yoiu can do is to try to get "goodwill" deletion of the accounts. Personally, if your scores are good enough for a venture prequal offer, I would not even mess with it, just let it age off.

Ok got it. Thank you. I just thought of it was in collections then it meant the creditor is still trying to collect?

Would I send the goodwill letter to the Cap One or the Collection agency? I'm trying to purchase a home soon and would like to see if I could do something about it.
