Hello,
I have a Discover account with the balance of 2,479.55 and it has been closed and charged-off as bad debt according to my credit report on Jan 22, 2019. I want to fix my credit score as this is the only negative account on my credit report. I received a letter verifying that the debt was valid and Discover is still the original credit and has not sold the account. How much can I settle for? I cannot pay the full amount at the moment, should I ask to settle for $1500 and ask for PFD?
Thanks.

The only way to know for sure what they'll accept is to contact them. Most lenders, and I would assume a large company like Discover, will set up payment plans so you don't have to worry about paying it all at once. It may be worth paying them off completely if you ever wish to get back into their good graces.
You can ask for a PFD, but the chances of an original creditor accepting that are slim to none.
We can't really tell you how much they'll settle for, if they settle at all. You'd have to contact them directly and negotiate.
Definitely contact them directly to negotiate, but nobody here can tell you how much they'll settle for. Start low and go from there. As others have said, they will most likely be happy to setup a payment plan on any agreed upon amount.
Do not take too long as they are happy to sue I was sued by them in 2018 (only 12 months after the CO) and again last year (both times the cases were dropped for processual problems).
I'm hoping to finally settle with them before they try to sue me again.
In my case, when trying to settle with the law firm they hired to collect from me, they would not accept less than ~70% of the debt, even after I pushed for a better deal. I am not sure how much harder I could've negotiated, but I dropped it there as I didn't quite have the breathing room to pay them at the time.
Good luck!
@gatorlover Which law firm was it? Was it Zwicker and associates? I have a charge off from Discover that is set to hit the SOL and fall off at the end of the month. Discover also sued me and I just ignored it. That was years ago. I'm just hoping nothing pops up between now and when it falls off becuase its the last negative on my CR.

It was Suttell & Hammer for me since I'm based in the PNW.
