Victim? Are you kidding? What I am is frustrated.

I know that this is my responsibility. I know that this is all my fault. I'm simply trying to settle a debt, and I'm looking to pay every cent that I owe to all of my creditors. Quite frankly, I have a perfectly clear view of my situation. In March 2015, I joined the cancer club - lost most of my income and had to concentrate on fighting. By December 2017, I made it all the way back. I started focusing on rebuilding my life and credit, with serious goals to fulfill. Since April, 2018 I've raised my scores on EQ from 509 to 593 with a goal of getting back to 700 or greater by mid-2019, and having Discover's charge-off balance stuck on my report with no way to pay them is frustrating. And to compound this frustration - the Discover agent told me they have not and will not be selling off this debt for some reason.

So I will do anything and everything that I can to make my creditors whole and restore my credit. Not looking for any settlements. Not looking for any deals. Just want to pay what I owed and move on. That's it.

I was not kidding. Did my post suggest to you I was kidding instead of offering to help? When you write "She refused to accept my offer to pay in full. So this charge off remains on my CRA for at least five more years. Forget about every (sic) qualifying for a mortgage" you move beyond correlation into causation. She (Discover) refused so this charge remains (I'm stuck) thus "forget about ever" in this case, qualifying for a mortgage.

So, no, I was not kidding. You wrote it. That's what your words say. I was trying to be helpful by gently pointing it out.

Now that you've added more information to your OP I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions. The folks here are a fountain of helpfulness & a wealth of information.

Again, best wishes to you.

Re: Discover Refuses to Accept Payment in Full.

As I interpret the scenario,  you are either dealing with a customer service rep who does not understand what a charge-off is, or else the creditor has actually cancelled the debt, which would justify their refusal to accept payment.

A charge-off does not, per se, excuse the debt.  It is an internal accounting measure, and the full debt still remains due and collectible.

A creditor must take the additional step of cancelling the debt before it is discharged, and no longer owed by the consumer.

If they had taken that step on a debt of $600 or more, they would have been required to send an IRS form 1099c, Cancellation of Debt.

They have apparently not done so, and thus there is no showing of any formal cancellation of debt.

I would contact someone in upper management for a clear confirmation of the status of the debt.

I would not rely upon the statement of the CSR, which is not supported by their actual actions on the account.

The other option, if you are simply seeking to pay the delinquent debt, is to just send them full payment.

Let them then formally refuse.

Regardless, the post seems to infer that payment will result in removal of the charge-off.

It will not remove the CO from scoring, as it will remain under your payment history profile and still be included in scoring.

The current status will update to paid, but the charge-off will not be removed from your payment history scoring.

I have an $864 balance on a Discover charge-off. I called their collections dept and the agent told me that as far as Discover is concerned, they charged it off, got a tax write off and I don't owe it anymore. She refused to accept my offer to pay in full. So this charge off remains on my CRA for at least five more years. Forget about every qualifying for a mortgage.

Anyone have advice on how to deal with Discover on this?

Hello, cw. I'm struck by the tone of your post -- do you feel you've been victimized in some way by Discover? If so, I'm not sure you're viewing your situation clearly, which might impede your efforts to rehab your credit.

As to your question: it sounds like your dealings with Discover are over. The debt has been sold to a CA and your efforts now focus on them. There is plenty of content here discussing how to offer a PFD with the CA, which seems your logical next step.

Good luck.

Tone? I'm VERY struck by your response.

@OP it is probably in your best interest to follow @RobertEG's suggestion.

Not looking for charge-off removal. I'm only interested in paying my debt. That's it.

I understood you perfectly clear. It is disturbing how some folks tend to deviate from the issue without offering beneficial resolve....like, "Tone." What a joke.
