I disputed an error on my report recently with Experian and just got notification that it was indeed deleted. Awesome.
My question is will this information be distributed to Transunion and Equifax? Or do I have to open a dispute with those agencies as well?
Thank you in advance.
It depends upon the reason why they deleted.
If they investigated and found they could not either verify the accuracy as reported or correct so as to overcome the inaccuracy, then it is not sufficient to make a correction or deletion with only the CRA that is handling the dispute. They are also required to report the update or deletion to any other CRA to which they have also reported the disputed information. See FCRA 623(b)(1)(D).
However, it is also common for a furnisher to delete upon receiving a dispute for voluntary reasons, such as just wanting it to go away, without actually agreeing that it cannot be veriified or correction. Unless you receive a determination from the CRA handling the dispute that they found the information to be unverified, then you cannot presume the furnisher actually determined that the information was inaccurate or could not be verified. In those instances, it may be necessary to dispute separately with each CRA.
They could decide to verify with any of the others.
