Do goodwill letters really work?

I've read about some people's post about doing a GW letter to old accounts to have them removed from credit report.

I had a BOA secered credit card and ended up not paying it off. It went to collections and I finally paid it off but want to get it removed from credit report.

I also had a credit one secered card which I ended up not paying and same thing went to collections. Ended up paying it off and they sent me another offer for a new credit card.

and I had a store credit card that went to collections and is paid off now.

what's the best way to go about this.

You're in the right forum. There has been some success stories with Credit One and Good Will. I'm not so sure about BoA.

Re: Do goodwill letters really work?

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the forum!

"Do goodwill letters really work?"   .. in short, most of the time YES!

I never had to do one myself, but have read ton's of success stories here on myFICO! (use the search bar at the top)

Not all get removed, but chances are good, If you are persistent. Some lenders are easier than others.

Good Luck!

Credit One will be the easiest. Not a guarantee, but many have had very good success with them lately, so I would work on that straight away!

I would use the search tool and look up GW and BoA and whoever the store card was with to see if anyone has had luck. That should be a good indicator, but you won't know unless you try!

There should be little harm in doing a GW campaign for each of the creditors. The naddies are already on your credit, so all you have is time between now and when they age off your credit reports, so I would certainly try my hardest during that time!

Good luck!
