I contacted EQ because all of a sudden there is a duplicate post of the same account. Same acct #, same amt, same everything except name spelling difference on creditor. This was not on my CR when I checked on the 6th but was there when I checked on the 9th. I contacted EQ and they said they had to verify it. I told them they would be able to verify it because it is already on my account once and she said they had 45 days to check it out. Well here we are today....VERIFIED!
Please tell me how I can get this duplicate account off of my CR.
Thanks!

I am having the same issue right now with all three bureaus. I have the same student loan showing up as two seperate account numbers and two seperate amounts. One shows my SSN as the account number with a $0 balance (this is the original account reported) then when they transferred the account to their own collection department, they relisted it as a seperate account number with the correct balance owing. I contacted every bureau and one actually told me that they are indeed "two seperate accounts". I was furious!!! Then just yesterday I get a letter from EQ who actually showed the account as it looks on my report with the SSN account number and then in small words at the bottom of the page literally wrote "The above referenced Acct # *********** is verified"....with the other account number!!!!!! You idiots!!! You just basically stated exactly what the problem is!!! So I wrote a letter to the Dept. of Education and cc'd each bureau too. I hoping that someone can do something about this because it is showing up as two seperate charge offs and devestated my scores when the duplicate appeared!
So frustrating!
In these cases, where the error is manifest, I send 1 polite letter asking them to remove the duplicate within a week, then, if they don't comply, I send an ITS letter giving them 1 day to remove, then I sue and serve them suit.
This kind of behavior should not be tolerated by consumers.
no prob - I just wanted to make sure we were not confusing Harpo..
I am having the exact problem with EQ and American General Finance.
I have disputed the dup entry twice and each time it has come back verified.
I guess I will have to threaten to sue.
