Employment Credit Check

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how much my score will drop for a pre-employment credit check?

Thanks,

Kate

Re: Employment Credit Check

At worst it should only be a single hard inquiry.

The score damage should be minimal ~ in most cases I would expect it to be something in the neighborhood of 5 - 10 points.

Re: Employment Credit Check

Employment checks should not have any adverse reaction to your Credit Reports. Your scores should stay the same. I am sure YMMV depending on how it was coded but if it is done properly there will be no changes to your scores.

Re: Employment Credit Check

I thought they were usually soft pulls, but I wouldn't be surprised if some actually did some hard hitting.

Re: Employment Credit Check

Yeah I have seen it sometimes as a soft pull, sometimes a hard pull YMMV.

Hopefully they can do a soft.

Re: Employment Credit Check

Thank you all for the info.

In the event it is a hard credit pull, any idea on how much my score could go down.

Re: Employment Credit Check

The FICO score impact of a single inquiry is minimal. Most inquiries have dinged me around 5 pts. YMMV.

Re: Employment Credit Check

OP, IIRC, FICO ignores inquiries placed for employment reasons.

Re: Employment Credit Check

I took a job for 4 weeks until a position opened up at my first choice of employment and they hard pulled my credit.  The good new is it was only one bureau. Until then I thought they were all soft pulls.
