Hi all,
In September 2020 I settled an account with Eastern Accounts in return to remove the negative entry. I did receive a PFD letter from them. Both Experian and Transunion removed within a couple months without needing to send the PFD letter.
Equifax, on the other hand refuses. I have sent the letter from Eastern Accounts (PFD letter) twice now and Equifax comes back with a letter basically saying they cannot remove because the collection account in question is verified.
What gives? I thought the "Big Three " are just data furnishers and if the original creditor or collection agency is asking to remove information, the Credit Reporting Angencies must do so?
Any ideas to get Equifax to stop being so stubborn?
Call the CA who supplies the info to EQ and ask if they could send another request to remove it from your reports as they promised in writing. Sometimes I believe some of these CRA's dont want to take the time and do the right thing and just pass the buck. But they have to report what is given to them. Some CA's will give a consumer a PFD letter. But the CRA's have contracts with suppliers to report accurate info. They dont care for those letters of deletions. Good Luck!
Well, as per their own rules, the CRAs don't delete upon payment of delinquent accounts, even if you have a PFD letter. As @FireMedic1 mentioned, you're going to have to contact the creditor directly and ask them to resubmit the deletion request.
As the others have said, definitely request the collection agency to send another deletion request to Equifax. I don't know why Equifax is such as pain in the you-know-what, but I absolutely cannot stand that bureau. They have caused me a lot of headaches in the past. I still cannot even access my report on the Equifax website because it says they need "more information" from me, whcih I have sent them umpteen million times to no avail.
Anyway, yes, have them send that deletion request again. It's really all you can do. Sorry for my rant. I just REALLY dislike Equifax, LOL.
I called the CA this morning. The woman I spoke to said she would submit again and to look for deletion August 10th. So we shall see.
EQ is really incompetent these days they are bogged down in keeping things current. They have never invested to get the right equipment to handle as much as they do today. Its possible this CA is submitting the request manually and not doing things electronically and if that is true then it can take weeks for things to get updated and yes its even possible the first was lost in the shuffle over at EQ. If they continue to be a problem there are steps that can be taken but I would not move on to the next one till at least 90 days has passed from the original request for removal. 90 days is considered current this is a holdover from when the creditors would only report to the bureaus once every 3 months not monthly. Monthly reporting is something still new.
Yeah, this originated last September, when I paid the collection. And, there were several months in between my attempts at sending in the PFD letter. Equifax has definitely had there fair share of time.

I see, if you dont get the deletion then in August I would move on to filing a BBB complaint against EQ for their refusal to remove when the creditor has requested it. Reason for the complaint would be shoddy business practices. Keep this thread updated as to its progress and if its not successful the next step can be taken.
