Hi All, been long 3 years since I screwed up with my credit. I have settle all my CO account but the final one which was sold to a debt buyer JD Prot Collection in CA. They have reported into collection debt, so I tried to contact them to settle. They said they do not process payment and has pass the the collection to another company in NY. I contacted that company and they said they foward to another company call Credit discovery mangament to collect. I called and email them serval time, and not reply from them. Is there a way for me just settle with the account buyer? This account will hit 4 year next year, and I want it to be off my / settle already so I can rebuild correctly. Any suggestion or help??
Thanks.
Before you settle with them or anyone make sure they actually own the debt. Otherwise you may be throwing money away. I would not contact any company that is not listed on your credit report. Even if they are named on the report, they are obligated to show proof that they own the debt. If no on acknowledges and/or can prove they own the debt, you may want to file a dispute with credit bureaus against the company named on your report. This will force them to respond to the credit bureaus or it has to be removed from your report within 30 days.
I agree start with what's on your credit report and if you have no luck dispute it, at the very least the credit bureau will have to provide contact info they used to verify.
I actually got the information from myfico report for the current debt owner. But current debt owner saying they can't process payment which is kind of stupid. This collection is the only thing that really effect my negative reports, everything else is on track now.

If they say they cannot process payment but they are the current debt owner, report them to the CFPB and the BBB. At the very least you'll get someone's attention to get it processed or start the ball rolling to get it removed from your CRs. Is the collection updating monthly?
