GC Services help

hello,

was wondering if anyone has dealt with this collection company? i have an AMEX acct that is with them and i just found out they called my parents looking for me (i'm 32, married and don't live them anymore). i want to pay this debt off and have every intention of doing so, but the last call i returned, they weren't willing to work with me and wanted the full 10K that day.i don't want them calling my parents, past employers or anything else. until i get this squared away-is it possible to send them a letter to cease all phone calls and only handle this matter through letters directly to me?

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.... Smiley Sad

Re: GC Services help

Never ever call a CA. Never trust a CA. And if you pay them, be sure it is in response to an accepted PFD (after you already sent a DV).

Are you inside SOL? When is the DOFD?

Re: GC Services help

Yes still within the SOL and DOFD is last July. Amex was very uncooperative when I began calling last year to say that I wasn't working and wanted my monthly payments temporarily lowered. They gave me the run around about some hardship program and before I knew it my monthly payments had gone up significantly. Anyways I've given up tyring to work w/Amex directly. In the meantime, I've gotten calls from Nationwide and now GC services. The main thing is I don't want them to keep contacting my parents' number or anyone else they can think of. I'm thinking I will have to send them a request to contact me strictly by mail.

Re: GC Services help

AmEx has a program called Oasis.

Do a search on this site or the CC forum for more information about it. It might be something you'd be interested in.

Re: GC Services help

i've read the postings on Oasis...from what i understand your debt to amex has to be paid off first and through Oasis you can be on your way to good standings w/them? but i could've misunderstood....

Re: GC Services help

Do you know if AmEx still owns this card?

I am not sure how it works, but I think you join the program and repay your old debt through the program and get this card.

I found a number that is supposed to be for the Oasis program with AmEx. 1-800-253-1709  Not sure if it is still a good number.

It may not be a program you are interested in, but if you are going repay the debt anyhow, might as well try to work with the OC and bypass the CA. It gives you a chance to re-establish yourself with AmEx(not sure if that is a good thing from what I"ve read lately about them).

I read a post on another website from someone who tried to use the program and wasn't eligible because they had already settled their account. I assumed from their post that the debt had to be still unpaid.

Re: GC Services help

thanks so much for your advice. i would like to pay the whole debt however it will take a long time since i will have a couple yrs of school before working. i'm not sure if it'd be better to just settle for less and negotiate for what goes on my credit report and for deletion of the collection ding. i'm not too concerned about being black-listed from amex, just more concerned about my credit and fico score.

Re: GC Services help (NCO fired)

So I just got off the phone w/GC services. After they called my dad and brother's family "looking" for me, I wanted to get their address to send them a letter before they called anyone else and let them know this is the number to reach me at. I hadn't answered their calls since I thought a company called NCO was handling my amex acct. After speaking to the rep (who was actually pleasant), found out that NCO had been fired by amex and GC services was hired. He went on to tell me about their "Care Program"-which sounds like the Oasis. Anyways I won't be able to to pay the balance in 6 mos, so I don't think it'd be a fit.

I am currently doing their program and I I was not able to pay the entire debt off in 6 months.  What I did do was set up six payments and will complete them this month.  I then was told to call them back and set up another 6 payments (which I did yesterday) and they just added an additional amount per month.  It was originally $100 and they asked for it to go up to $150 but I told them I could not do this but I could do $125 per month.  they agreed.  It doesn't hurt to ask.  Its Either a YES or a NO!!!!  Good luck.
