Has anyone dealt with GFS they started calling my wife today about a debt from 2004 threatening to sue. I know it is past the date they can sue but I've never seen one this old pop up again. It is weird cause I had a similar situation over the summer with a debt collector calling me saying I owed money for an old card that I had paid back in 2011 went back and forth for months even after emailing proof it had been dealt with. She doesn't have anything showing hers was paid but believe it was cause it was capital one and they get their judgements and she has active cards with them now.
Unless there was a judgement awarded, the debt is time barred and can't be reported. That doesn't mean they can't try to get you to pay.
You can either ignore them, or send them a cease and desist letter.
That's what I was thinking they are just trying to intimidate her into paying by threatening legal action. Since cleaning up our credit years ago it was just shocking to get a call like that.
I received a phone call from them today. Did you find out if they are legit
