Do I have any hope of getting a 30 day late from my Maurices card who is held by Capital One but is being switched to Comenity? I have read where Cap one rarely gives them but what would happen if I request it from Comenity once they take over?
(The late happened July 2019)
If that doesn't help does closing the account help/hurt? I rarely use it and the late was from me just placing a small balance to keep it active and forgot about the purchase 🤦🏻♀️
A closed account can stay on your reports for up to 10 years, something to think about. Beat of luck!
Usually negative items drop off in 7 years. Accounts in good standing will remain on the report for 10 years after the closing of the account. In you case I am not sure if closing the account is going to help you. If there is no Annual Fees then leave it alone and let the negatives drop off eventually. You can keep sending the good will letters. Also 30 day lates have less effect than 90 - 120 day lates which will have more effect for longer term.
Closing an account wont have any impact on the late. It will still be there, and affecting your score negatively.
I wouldn't close an account for that reason, if you have use for it.
As far as GW removal, CapOne is a tough cookie but it really cannot hurt to try. Dont expect to succeed on a first try, but keep trying.
If it works out, it will be worth it.
I'd send those letters roughly once a month. Maybe one will land on the right desk
Good luck and i hope you get this resolved.
Yep. Keep sending those Goodwill letters! Don't close the account with the 30-day late. There would be no use to doing this from a FICO score standpoint. In fact, it probably would stifle the credit score increase from making on-time payments from here on in.
I know how you feel. I had a 30-day late seven years ago. It dropped my score about 70 points or so--back to about 610-615. But most of the loss was restored (in my case) in a few months. I've heard it said that there's virtually no effect from a 30-day late after two years.

I gained 30 EQ Fico points removing a 3 1/2 year-old 30-day late. Plus, any account being manually underwritten looks much better with no baddies.
The Saturation Technique is tried & true. Good luck.
No doubt about that----no lates DO look better under manual underwriting. When it comes to lates, they seem to run the gamut, somehow. I got lucky with my one 30-day late over 13 years. Lost 70 points, then gained most of them back within 3-4 months. I have a very thick file--just over 30 years with EX and EQ, and 36 years with TU.
Maybe that defaulted loan from the 1980s continues to keep my TU scores down!
One 30 day late wont hurt that much. I had one that was 2yrs old when I started rebuilding after BK. Now its 6.7 months old. Didnt stop me from going from no cards to 1 at $1200 to where I'm at now. If thats the only late you have. It wont kill a rebuild. YMMV.
