Getting back with Discover after burning them?

I'm in the middle of my Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, and I'm burning Discover for $1,200. Obviously I'm not getting back in with them without paying this debt off, but now with Capital One buying them out, I'm wondering, will be able to qualify for a SAVER card for my rebuild, or will they not give me anything until I pay back the Discover debt? I have decided to do just that, and after I pay off my tax debt at the end of next year, I'm going to start giving them some coin towards paying that $1,200 off, for the purposes of getting back in.

Does anyone have an idea how long after I pay them off they would consider me? I reaffirmed my truck so I'll have the payment history from that, and I got pre-approved for a Mission Lane with no annual fee with e $3k limit, so I'm planning on starting there once the discharge comes down a month from now, or with Capital One, but again, since they just bought out Discover, I now have burned them too, so thinking I won't be getting approved for a card from them for a rebuild unfortunately. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Anyways... thanks for reading, folks.

Re: Getting back with Discover after burning them?

Once you've gone through all the blood, sweat and tears to discharge the debt, I can't see paying them, just to get back with disco or capone. There are many other banks out there.

Even if you pay them, you'll have the bk7 on your report, but Capone seems to be fairly bk friendly.

Ps, I have a savior card and like it, but I wouldn't pay anything for it. Amazon just paid me $250 worth of stuff to take the chase prime card. I like it better when they pay me!

Re: Getting back with Discover after burning them?

Well, I burned Cap 1 in my Chp 7 last year. I filed in April 24 and was discharged Aug 24. After discharge I tried the pre-approval every 1st of the month since and get the same denial reason. Screenshot_2025-07-13-19-07-27-25_f541918c7893c52dbd1ee5d319333948.jpg

So either Cap 1 has tightened there pre-approval belt or I'm on some kind of internal black list.

Might be tougher getting back in with Discover also with the Cap 1 buyout. But then again it could just be me that they don't like 😁.

I actually don't need them, now it's just a curiosity to see if I'll ever get the thumbs up from their pre-approval. I'll try again Aug 1st and see what happens.

Re: Getting back with Discover after burning them?

I burned Cap1 for 6k and they won't let me start a new relationship with them. After acquiring Discover I started getting emails saying they want to give me another chance and to check out the pre-qualification link they give me. I've had no luck and stopped after the 3rd time. I don't need them anyways and I think it's  just a joke at this point.

Re: Getting back with Discover after burning them?

I don't know that Discover and Capital One are fully merged in that way yet. Maybe...but probably not. Anyway, go with credit unions!!

I was discharged from Ch7 in spring 2019 and burned capital one for about $2600 (Discover for almost $10k). Discover consistently said, NO!

I lived credit card free for awhile and got a no AF Platinum card with a $500 CL in November 2020. It's now a Quicksilver with a $2550 CL and I got a Savor this year with a $6,000 CL

I burned CapOne, Discover, Amex, Barclays, Citi, Synchrony (several cards), Target, among others. I'm now back with CapOne, Synch (just Amazon) and Target. My other cards are from other issuers.

Capital One Savor: $9,000; Nordstrom Visa: $6,700; Mission Lane: $4,500; LOFT MC: $4,000; AAA Daily Advantage: $3,700; PenFed Power Cash Rewards: $2,000; Capital One: $550 (reallocated $2k to Savor)

Store/Other: Care Credit: $7,500; Amazon: $2,500; Kohls: $2,500; Home Depot: $2,250; Target: $1,600

Re: Getting back with Discover after burning them?

I burned Discover back in 2016 for $5k. I settled for less than the full balance in 2018. It's 2025 now and Discover still won't go anywhere near me. In my experience they're the least forgiving bank I've ever dealt with, everyone else (including even Chase) has given me second chances.

    Total Loan Balance: $43k / $65k

    Total SL: $78k

DS is who file suit and pushed me over the edge into my 13, 7.5 years after that i'm back in with 2 Disco Cards with healthy limits - they do let you in, it'll just take time (they wouldn't even give me a secure card before that 7.5 years was up)
