Getting weird calls, help!

I am getting calls from a no caller ID phone number, saying to call an 844 number--some calls for myself and some for my daughter--with the message that "the clerk has documents that will be issued and address and employment will be assumed to be valid if you do not call back within 24 hours."  She and I have never received any kind of a notice. I have one  time-barred debt with DOFD August 2009 that I do not recognize, and she is making payments on a payment schedule arranged with her student loan company and has not been late. Please help. I have no idea what to do in this situation.

Google the number first to see if it's a legit company.

Sounds like a scam to get your personal info. Please google the #, like prior post said & please do not give any personal info over the phone. I really think if it were anyone legit that you would be notified via mail. Also, if it were so important it would come certified  So, many scammers SMH

Re: Getting weird calls, help!

Thank you so so so so so much to you both. The number is now on a scam site. It wasn't last week, so that's why I was freaking out. I didn't even think to Google it again. I guess it's new people/new number. The people posting about it are all from Feb 2016.

I love this forum. You all are so helpful and reassuring.

The disturbing thing is, they have our address. How would they know this? Is this a call the police kind of thing?

Re: Getting weird calls, help!

Any one can get your address, not a worry. Public reords will give anyone info. I wouldn't worry about the address, I have gotten quite a few strange calls. A good scammer will accumulate as much info as they can on you & then call you with hit or miss statements. Please never respond no matter how legit they sound until you verify; then still do so with great caution, Scammer change #'s often Smiley Wink

Re: Getting weird calls, help!

I literally get more calls from scammers than anyone else. They're freaking relentless. I don't answer my phone if I don't recognize the number, but I always look up the number. Always a scammer.
