Goodwill Letters

This is my first post, I finally had the time, (several uninterrupted hours) to write 9 goodwill letters to several credit card companies as well as my old car loan company. All of these are old paid in full debts and all but one are closed accounts. Has anyone had experience with old accounts? Is it easier to get closed or paid in full accounts off your record  or does it matter? Several of these accounts are even old enough that in the next year they will fall off on their own but I'm anxious to refinance my mortage and need all the help I can get. Thanks!

Re: Goodwill Letters

I'm not necessarily sure if age has anything to do with the decision to GW versus the company itself. However all of mine were from 2007 and I have been able to get almost all of them removed.

Good Luck!

Re: Goodwill Letters

Fast forward one year. The goodwill letters were a success!!! Only 3 bad marks left on my report and my credit score has increased to over 700 which allowed us to refinance our mortgage with State Farm bank with an interest rate of 3.125 percent. I also qualified for a couple credit cards that allow me to move the $2000 I have in credit card debt to a 0% rate for 1 year. Hopefully I can pay off the $2000 in one year.

When my husband saw me writing letters he thought I was crazy until they started working and he saw his credit score go up as well. I told him it never hurts to ask even if the negatives are my fault, just be honest in the letter writing and hope for the best.

In the end the few hours I spent at the computer were well worth it.
