I had an collection account show up that I did not recognize. After diputing the file they sent me supporting documentations (billing statements) with a bill date of March 2016 and I have not done any type of business with this company for over 3 years. What should I do?
Since billing statements are sent by the OC, I assume the reference is to a recent biling statement by the creditor.
Do you, in fact, have a delinquent debt with the named creditor?
I believe I might, although it would have been from over 4 years ago now that I think about it. The billing statement was sent to me from The original creditor after I disputed this collection. But the billing statement they sent says a date of March 5th 2016 and I know for 100% that I have not done business with them in over 4 years. Does this give me any standing to follow up the dispute and have this removed?
Would your dispute assert that a creditor with a delinquent debt is barred from billing after a set number of months?
As for a dispute, a billing statement is not an item of information that is reported to the CRA.
A dispute would be made if the accuracy of any reported information is contested.
Additionally, a dispute relates only to the verification, correction or deletion of the information that is disputed.
It would not compel deletion of the account, or of other accurate reporting under the account.
