I have one medical collection on my report. Its from an emergency clinic in FL when we were vacationing, I had to bring my daughter. We live in MA.
I started the HIPAA process, followed the instructions by Opting Out and sending dispute letters. The dispute came back verified and the relationship between the OC and CA was confirmed.
I then sent the HIPAA letter to the OC with the appropriate insert and a bank check (with deposit only to OC) for the full amount, sent CMRRR. I received the return receipt that it was delivered and accepted. The check was cashed.
I then sent the follow up letter to the OC with copies and a cover letter to the CRAs. My reports were then updated with the collection changing from "Unpaid" to "Paid" but the collection still remains on my reports.
Im not sure what to do now. I know I cant contact the CA at all for anything, but the OC is ignoring my follow up letters. I need this deleted as its keeping my FICOs down and I plan on applying for a mortgage within the next year.
Help please

Did the CA send you written validation of the debt after you disputed with the CRAs?
I was still receiving bills from the CA up until they updated it as "Paid". But I didnt receive anything from the CA after the dispute letter was sent to the CRAs. Only confirmation from the CRAs that it was verified.
The only time you send the OC the HIPAA letter is when the CRA verifies the collection AND the CA sends you written validation. I have only seen two occasions when the HIPAA letter program failed when done correctly. You should send the CA the "Alternative Medical DV Letter" CMRR since its now being reported as paid. Also, send the "follow-up dispute letter" to the CRAs CMRR. As I mentioned, if the HIPAA letter program is done in the right way, this paid collection should go away.
Thank you!!!
FYI!
There is pending legislation "in Committee" that would prohibit CRAs from reporting "paid" and "settled" medical collections.
Fused,
What is the status of this new legislation? I haven't seen or heard anything on this lately, have you?
I believe its still sitting in the House Committee On Financial Services.
