HIPAA Question

I've been reading posts and I'm confused as to if you can only do the HIPAA process if you paid the OC and not the CA. My husband has several medical collections that have been paid but all but three were paid through the CA not the OC. Can we still do the HIPAA process?

Also the 3 that we paid through the OC, one of the medical bills were large and they offered a settlement and we took it. So in essence I guess we technically still owe a balance. Can we HIPAA those as well?

TIA!

Re: HIPAA Question

If you settled on that acct you shouldnt have a balance left. I would still go through the HIPAA process b/c by law they are required to remove that from your report once it is paid.

Re: HIPAA Question

shalane85 is correct.  The account is paid.  So just follow the HIPAA process exactly as outlined.

Re: HIPAA Question

You can use the HIPAA process for all paid medical collections. The one that was settled with the hospital should be concidered paid!!!

Re: HIPAA Question

sorry to be ignorant about it.

But where can I find this HIPAA process that everyone keeps refering to?  I googled HIPPA process, HIPAA dispute, etc, etc but all i got were links back to here and other forums.

I'm sure that it's somewhere right in front of my face, I just can't seem to find "the process."

Anyone have a quick link or anything?

Thanks

Due to legal considerations we're very limited at to what we can say here about HIPAA. I know the procedures are out there on the internet but I've never personally looked for it. Hopefully someone will see this and be able to send you a PM (Private Message) with more information,

Good luck to you.

Re: HIPAA Question

I would love to have the HIPAA information PMd to me as well please. I have one medical collection ($70 for a test I was told was covered by insurance) that I would really like to get removed. So I'd love to know if I should PFD on it or do something else.

Thanks!!

Hi gainingground,   You replied to a thread that is over 2yrs old.  These people may or may not, be here any longer.

Check your PM's, I sent you a link where you can find, the info you are looking for.

From what I've read, the HIPAA process works for some people and not for others.

IMO, I think when the HIPAA process started a few years ago, the mention of the word HIPAA scared the OC's and the CA's,into deleting items from CR's. And now since the HIPAA process has been around for awhile, I think the OC's and the CA's are not as quick to delete debt from CR's.

IME, I used PFD letters for my unpaid debts that were with CA's. And used GW letters on the paid CA's.That worked for me.

Do your homework, read all you can about medical debts, before doing anything. Figure out your options and go from there.Smiley Wink

Hi ailanna, Check your PM's also..........................Good Luck to both of you! !Smiley Wink

Hi LIGHTNIN,

Could you please PM me this info. as well?

Here's my situation: I received a letter from a CA back in 2007 that my son's pediatrician turned over to them  for $100. Well I paid it off right after they contacted me (before I knew anything about this forum or being able to request PFD). Here I am 4 years later and it is one of 2 collections I have left on my CR (both are paid). A few months ago, I sent a few GW's to them and never heard back, so I called them to follow up with my letters. The representative I spoke with informed me that the only way they would remove it was if the OC requested for them to remove it. So I was able to get ahold of the retired dr. that sent this collection over and he said he'd be glad to contact them and let them know. So I called the CA back and informed them the dr. would be willing to do this and what he needed to do in order to get this done. They transferred me to the supervisor/owner who told me I was misinformed and they would not delete it under any circumstances, so it was worthless continuing to bother them with this. I figure the HIPAA process is my last resort on this? I know you can't talk much about this, but any help you have on this matter is greatly appreciated! TIA!

Re: HIPAA Question

Just courious but if HIPPA process is a legimate way to remove paid medical bills why is it a legal problem to discuss it?
