HOT MESS - Multiple dupes reporting on my credit report, need help untangling the web

I need some advice about what to do with an error on my credit report. I've had a LB store credit card since 2005. The account was sold to Commenity in 2008 which created a mess on my report. I've got pretty good payment history on the account with a 30/60/90 late in 2013 and one 30 late in 2013.

So here is where the cluster starts....Each agency is reporting something different for each of the THREE accounts that are showing up.  And they are all for ONE account. None of it is correct and I don't even know where to start.

I want to get these accounts cleaned up so that I get the benefit of the good account history without showing up as closed. But I'm not sure what to do. My fear is that if I dispute this the wrong way, I will loose the good account data somehow. I don't want them deleted, just corrected. The info being reported is below. PLEASE if you have ideas, let me know.

Account 1:

  • EQ: Does not show up
  • TU: Does not show up
  • EXP: Shows as open, with the 30/60/90 late in 2013. Only reports 9/11 - 8/13. Listed as current but previously 90 past due.

Account 2:

  • EQ: Does not show up
  • TU: Shows as closed with no late payments. Only reports 10/06 - 9/08, Listed as paid as agreed and has a close date of 9/08.
  • EXP: Shows as closed with no late payments. Only reports 10/06 - 9/08, Listed as closed/transferred. No close date listed.

Account 3:

  • EQ: Shows as closed with the 30/60/90 late and one other 30 late in 2013. Only reports 8/11 - 7/13. Missing on time payments for months of 8 - 10/11Listed as closed but no close date is given.
  • TU: Shows as closed with the 30/60/90 late and one other 30 late in 2013. Only reports 8/11 - 7/13. Listed as closed but no close date given.
  • EXP: Shows as closed with no late payments and in good standing. Only reports 2/08 - 1/10. Listed as closed but no close date given.

Just replying so this stays on the board. Does anyone have suggestions?

I dealt with duplicates by disputing in writing by mail with print outs of the actual account history and proof that I only had one account that met the conditions. Hand-write the letter with a combination of ink and paper colors that is difficult to scan so that someone processes it by hand. Send it certified with delivery confirmation via USPS.

I do not recommend doing this by phone or via the web portal.

TU ended up deleting the duplicated accounts, while EQ/EX left only a few of the duplicated accounts. I am still working on the remaining dupes, but I've had success otherwise.

Just be aware that there is a possibility of having all of them deleted instead of corrected. The OC may find that easier than fixing them.

Thank you for the heads up. That is my biggest concern, that they will delete the valid information. This is one of my oldest accounts so I don't want to lose the history.

If I do dispute, I'll use the hand written approach. Thank you!!

The problem with attempting to do it via the OC is that they can only insert, update and delete what they have that matches, and if it doesn't match, it can get inserted as a new tradeline and cause problems because of the CRA's software. If they show they are reporting one thing with the correct information (which is 99.9999% the case), there is nothing they can do to fix what the Credit Bureaus have that is erroneous now. Also, I tried getting something that was deleted by mistake reinserted, and because my account was closed and paid, the OC couldn't do it because of the laws governing them - I didn't have any lates on the account in question, though, so perhaps with good wills to get the lates removed it could be reinserted?

If there are 3 TL's with late notations, that may very well be having a worse impact than if the tradeline is completely gone erasing the good history. It's definitely something you will have to weigh out.
