I'm new to this forum and just beginning to clean up some things on my credit. I had a credit card that I defaulted on years back and it went into collections with one agency, Calvary Portfolio, which posted to my reports in 2010, then in 2013 it was sold to Cach, LLC and that also posted to my report. So now I have two collections for the same debt on my report. Shouldn't I be able to remove Calvary? Do I need dispute with all 3 bureaus to do this? Also, would me disputing cause it to "restart" the 7 years drop off time if I can't get it off?
Thank you for your help!

Call the first company and tell them that it is paid and needs to be removed (its paid as far as they concerned it is). It may take a letter, the damage is already done if its reported recent anyway, doesn't hurt to get a 5 minute answer on the phone. Any manual reviews in the future want to see things paid even if they are bad ones.
I've called them before and they are not in any way, shape or form friendly or accepting or easy to work with so I don't see that going how I need for it go. I just can't see that it is legal or ok for me to have two collections on my report that are the same debt. That's a double baddie for the same exact account. I'm going to be trading in my car soon and it would be so nice to have at least one of these gone if I can.

I'm not so certain these are actually the same account. Different amounts, plus the earlier CA is listing it as paid, while the newer CA is showing it as unpaid. CA's don't list an account as paid if they have sold it - they are supposed to delete their reporting of it, not update to paid. The only time they will update to paid is if they actually got paid, or the OC got paid and reported such to them. Something is definitely NOT right here.
The question is did you actually pay this account or settle it?
They are definitely the same account. I have only had one credit card with HSBC Bank and when it went into collections, it was around $600. I'm not sure why the other company shows it as $771 but I know it is in reference to the same debt.
I have never paid or settled it. I spoke with the first agency when it initially went into collections and they were absolutely horrible to deal with but no I never paid the debt. I agree something isn't right and I think I should be able to get the first one taken off since they don't own the debt anymore.
